Sue Keefer is an avid nature photographer. Her background includes a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in library science. Born and raised in Dixon, IL, she moved to Colorado in 1978. She worked as a reporter/photographer at newspapers in Illinois, Iowa, and Colorado. She also worked in libraries in Granby and Las Animas, CO, before receiving her master’s degree in library science, after which she was hired as Library Director at Otero Junior College, from which she retired in 2017. Her husband is a former wildlife officer and their daughter is an infectious disease doctor in New Orleans. Since retiring, she has served in several volunteer positions and is currently board chairman for the Arkansas Valley Resource Center and a member of the Tarantula Fest Committee. She participates in several citizen science programs, including iNaturalist, Project Feeder Watch, Native Bee Watch, and Bumble Bee Atlas. Her family includes three cats, a corgi, and a lab. Although she enjoys all types of nature photography, she has recently concentrated on macro photography, especially insects and spiders.
